Something New
All of you work very hard on the voice you use with your puppet. You want to make sure that you don’t move your lips or any of the other standard do’s and don’ts. These are very important.
There is one other thing that can make or break your voice match-up for your character. Example: If you have a character that is an old man or old woman and you have a voice that is clearly for a young person.
This can totally destroy the impact of your presentation. The voice for an older person must have the appropriate amount of “shakiness” or other qualities consistent with being an older person.
Also, make sure that the voice of an old man does not sound like a female. Conversely the voice for an older lady should not sound like a male.
Find others around you who will give you honest opinions as to whether or not the voice you are using is right for the character.
If you are using the wrong voice, you do not necessarily need to discard the voice if it is a good one. Just use that voice with another character for whom it is correct.
Then work out and find the correct voice for the character you were using in the beginning.
Just remember, it is all about the illusion that you are giving the audience. The more real the illusion, the more real the perception.
Thats all for this week. We will talk again real soon.
