How do I make my puppets sit up straight for display?

Something New

Many people ask the question of how do they get their puppets to sit up straight for display.

There are a couple of things that we can suggest on how to do this. Take a small stick and put it up inside your puppet. Push it all the way up to the inside of the head. Take your fingers and mark the lowest part of the stick.

With your fingers still in position, pull the stick all the way out of the puppet. Using a marking pen, mark where your fingers are on the stick. Now take a tape measure and get the distance from the end that was inside the head to where you have marked the stick.

Now go to Lowes or your local hardware store and buy a 5′ long piece of 1-1/2″ PVC pipe. With a hacksaw cut the pipe to the length of the measurement you got with your stick.

After cutting the PVC, take a rag and clean all the loose debris from the PVC. Insert it up inside the puppet till it reaches the top of the head. Slide the bottom end into the bottom of the puppet.

You will find that your puppet sits straight up. All you need to do is put him/her against a wall or other solid object.

In the absence of PVC get a foam swimming pool “noodle” and cut it to the length of the measurement on the stick. If should do much the same thing as the PVC.

Thats all for now, we will talk next week.
