Just got back from this years Vent Haven ConVENtion. Have to say it was about the best ever. If you missed it, start making plans for next year. Mark Wade and staff just keep raising the bar with each year.
Back many moons ago, when I was much younger, it seemed like every time I got close to the television, there was always one Ventriloquist that would come on some show or the other. Laugh In was one of those shows.
Willy Tyler and his puppet Lester were on absolutely everywhere. Never got to see more than 5 or 6 minutes of him, but Willie was the Vent who for me embodied Ventriloquism.
This year for the first time ever we got to see him live and in person. Absolutely NO disappointment. Willie’s act lasted a good 20-25 minutes and one could not help but be totally impressed with his professionalism and showmanship. Even now at 73, Willie still owns the stage when he gets up. We were both pleased and impressed with his attitude and the family content of his act.
Willie has no plans of retiring or slowing down. As he said “When you love what you do, it is not work, so why stop having fun. Just keep on entertaining folks.
