We have talked about this topic before and have gotten much good feedback about it, so it is probably a good thing to mention it again from time to time as a reminder.
When you are performing, make sure that your puppets eyes stay focused on someone in the audience while he/she is speaking.
The best way to do this is to watch from your perspective and see where the puppets nose is pointing. If you can follow the puppets nose, that will also be where the puppets eyes are focused.
This is a very easy concept and with just a bit of practice it will be a great help to you.
