This year at Vent Haven ConVENTion’s Saturday Show we had already told you about the line-up of stars, but did not have any pictures other than stock videos of the performers at the show.
This week we were privileged to get several good pictures of the performance of our good friend Gary Owen. Not only is Gary a great Ventriloquist and the only Pro Vent in Oklahoma, but Gary was using Delilah.
She is a seductress who invariably calls on a man from the audience. (Disclaimer – yes we have a vested interest in Delilah since she is one of our puppet creations)
After some light banter with Gary about her being on the hunt “for a man” – Delilah begins to survey the room for the man of her dreams
Upon making her selection, Delilah calls the man up on stage where she begins the time honored tradition of stroking his ego and making him believe that he is the only man on earth for her (and her obvious charms)
After building her new man up for a bit, Delilah begins to tell him what would happen to her if he ever leaves her. In the case of this particular show, Delilah picked the perfect man for the part. He fell right into her trap (to an extreme) much to the joy of the audience.
Delilah then begins to sing to her new man. She sings Patsy Cline’s “I fall to pieces”. Initially she has him just hold her right hand as she begins to sing (it might actually been Gary doing the singing – but it sure sounded like Delilah to us). As Delilah begins to sing “I fall to pieces” suddenly her entire right arm comes off in the hands of her man.
As Delilah continues to sing “I fall to pieces”, her left eye pops out and falls down to the end of a tether. The house came apart in response to the show.
Delilah’s man was the perfect choice for this night. He was completely heartbroken and nonplussed as his part of the show.
As a side note, Delilah also has one other feature that Gary opted not to use this night because of the number of young members in the audience. As the song progresses ordinarily, two of Delilahs more “prominent charms” suddenly plummet from their usual place to a new location inside her dress that would indicate about 50 years of aging.
This was a great show and enjoyed by all in attendance. Subsequently, Taylor Mason publically asked Delilahs new man what he does for a living. He replied that he had just retired. Taylor then asked him where he retired from. His reply “A psychiatric hospital”. The house came apart and even Taylor gained from Delilah’s performance.
