When you buy a puppet, do you simply look at a puppet and buy it if you like it? Or do you have a character in mind and try to find a puppet that looks like that character? We want to suggest that you try something different. We want to give you a picture of a puppet.
Then we would like you to study the puppet and see if you can come up with a character for the puppet. Does the puppet remind you of someone that you know? Is it your great Uncle? Your neighbor down the street? Some other person that you have seen or met a while back?
We believe that in order for a puppet to be a good character for your act that you must have connected with the puppet. If you cannot connect with the puppet, then you probably should not buy that particular puppet.
Take several minutes and look at the puppet picture that we are providing for you this week. This puppet is in fact for sale but that is NOT the reason that we are using this puppet. We are trying to stimulate your ability to see a character in a puppet.
Talk to the picture and see if it talks back to you. If in fact you seem to bond with the puppet we don’t object to you purchasing the puppet, but as we said, that is not the reason for us using this puppet.
If within 10 minutes you have not started to build a routine in your mind for this puppet, then it is not the right puppet for you.

Deffinately not the right puppet for me. It doesn’t fit the character that I have in mind.

Nope, nothing. I like him, he is cute, clearly full of personality, but unlike my main figure, I cannot hear his voice. With my main puppet, I saw his incomplete face, not painted yet, and the grin struck a note in me and instantly I could hear him and do the voice right off, and the personality just sprang right into being. FUN! Love puppets but as long as I keep sticking to those who speak to me, I will be able to carry them all in a couple of trunks….
