It is this time of year when we realize how quickly July is sneaking up. Its almost time for our annual vacation of fun, learning and total silliness.
It is time for the Venthaven ConVENTion. I know many of you, like us, are regulars at the vent family reunion, but some of you have not yet managed to put in an appearance.
For those of you who have never had the pleasure, or are not familiar with the ConVENTion, this will be a really special year. The ConVENTion has turned a page in its history book and has moved from its traditional location at The Drawbridge Inn to the Airport Marriott. Sad to leave the old location, but far overdue at the same time. There was something special about The Drawbridge Inn when you had a few minutes (hard to come by) to reflect on all the big Vent names that had attended there over the years and all the fun and laughter that had been there for 35 years.
Sadly, all good things must come to an end, and The Drawbridge, having gone through a series of new owners, foreclosures, and some general bad management, had past the point of being a good location for the future. Our Executive Director, Mark Wade, made the decision to find a new home, and we are very excitedly looking forward to a whole series of “new” old memories at The Airport Marriott location. Just like things at your home, the house you live in does not make as much difference as the fact that you get to spend time with your family. For us, the time spent with our family of Vents is indeed the most important. Location is a secondary thing.
For those of you who are just starting out in vent, The Venthaven ConVENTion is THE most exciting eVENT on our annual calendar. There just is no other gathering like it.
To be able to attend all the seminars with top professionals and to absorb their literally hundreds of years of experience by listening to all the mistakes they can help you avoid in your career is of far more value than the cost of the ConVENTion. To rub elbows with the likes of Jeff Dunham, Terry Fator, and countless other names that you are familiar with is priceless. To be blown away with being able to see performances with folks the likes of Dr. Bob Baker and to see just how healthy the art form still is, is also worth the price. This year Ronn Lucas will be performing with Scorch. So many names, so much talent, so much fun.
If you are looking for props or for puppets, the biggest names in makers will all be their for you to talk to and get to handle their products. (Maybe even take some of them home with you).
VentHaven ConVENTion is without a question the high point of our Vent year. Getting together with all the old friends, meeting so many new friends. Its like Christmas for Dummies
JET is already planning on having her usual new crop of about 20 new characters for this years Vendors room.
If you have not yet signed up, there is still time to do so, but I understand that the Marriott is filling up quickly so don’t wait too much longer. Come one, come all.
You can register at http://www.venthavenconvention.com/ . What are you waiting for? We look forward to seeing you!!!
Until next time,
Steve and JET
